The Southern Nash Varsity Baseball team dropped their season opener 3-2 Wednesday night to SouthWest Edgecombe. Trey Mizzelle took the loss on the mound, but pitched well going 5 innings and allowing 3 runs 1 earned with 7 strikeouts and 1 BB, while allowing 5 hits. Matthew Horrigan threw the final 2 innings allowing 0 runs while striking out 3. AJ Jones was 1-3 with a double and Luke Coble was 1-1 and scored a run, Brandon Strickland was 1-2 with a single. The Birds return to play on Friday at home vs Nash Central.
