The Firebirds baseball team dropped to 0-2 with a 7-5 loss to Nash Central on Friday night at home. The Birds jumped out on top early with a 4-1 lead after a four run first inning powered by a 2 run double by Isaiah Bland, and a 2 out 2 run single from Luke Watson. Starting pitcher cruised through 4 innings allowing only 1 run including 3 double plays, but one bad inning cost the Birds 6 runs and the game. AJ Jones went 4.2 inning on the mound allowing 6 hits and 7 unearned runs, and was relieved by Matthew Horrigan who went 2.1 innings allowing no runs on 2 hits and striking out 4.
Isaiah Bland went 2 for 4 with a double and 2 RBI, Luke Watson was 2-4 with 3 RBI, Dylan Alford was 1-4 with a double, AJ Jones was 1-2 with a single and 2 walks, Brandon Strickland, Matthew Hill, and Mason Cone also added a hit each.
The Birds have 4 games this week starting a home double header against SSS on Tuesday starting at 430, then visit SWE and Nash Central on Wednesday and Friday.
